Drambuie Fishing Tournament

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

The Drambuie Fishing Tournament is an annual gathering of the United State’s best fishermen in the pursuit of pulling up the best marlins in Key West, Florida.

Held in July, the tournament brings together professional fishermen from all over the world to compete for a sum of over $250,000 worth of prizes. The tournament typically promotes fish-friendly lures when hunting for fish, thoruhg tournament anglers are permitted to use more traditional J shaped hooks to catch their fish. Those fishing for Atlantic billfish from HMS permittd boats must, however, use non-offset circle hooks to decrease the chances of the fish dying after it has been released.

Though the Drambuie Fishing Tournament is billed primarily towards snagging marlins, tuna, dolphin and wahoo are also permitted. The tournament is heavily sponsored (obviously enough) by Drambuie, though there are plenty of smaller, more fishing-friendly sponsors as well.
